A Pair of Diplomats Advance at CSAs

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Shams Abbas and Sanjay Jeeva both advanced to tomorrow's Semifinal rounds of their respective brackets to lead Franklin & Marshall at the opening day of the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships, hosted by Penn.

The Results

Shams Abbas – Molloy Cup – North

Abbas started on a high note with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Bowdoin's Deven Kanwal in the Round of 16. He cruised in games one and two with scores of 11-5 and 11-6, respectively, before taking a narrow 12-10 frame. 

He went on to face the bracket's No. 1 seed Tushar Shahani of Penn in the Quarterfinals and fought back from an 11-5 opening-game loss to take the next three frames. Abbas advanced into tomorrow's 11:00 a.m. Semifinal matchup against Trinity's Andrew Lee. 

Sanjay Jeeva – Molloy Cup – South 

Jeeva, who is his bracket's top seed, rolled to a 3-0 sweep of Fordham's Patrick Rodden in his opening match. His first game was won by an 11-1 score – which took just three minutes to complete. 

He cruised to another 3-0 sweep in his next contest over MIT's Joe O'Connor to earn a place in tomorrow's Semifinals where he'll battle Rochester's Cesar Segundo Corona at 12:45 p.m.

Aryan Parekh – Molloy Cup – East 

Parekh took down Drexel's Gautam Nagpal by a 3-1 tally in the Round of 16. After rolling to wins of 11-5 and 11-8, Parekh suffered an 11-4 loss in the third but closed out the match with a close 11-9 triumph in the fifth.

In the quarterfinals, Parekh fought back from an 11-1 loss in the first game to take a 13-11 win in the second. However, his tournament was ended after losses of 11-5 and 11-5 in the next two frames.

Matt Dukarm – Molloy Cup – West 

Dukarm dropped a hard-fought 11-7, 11-9, 11-8 loss to St. Lawrence's Inwood Lee in his first-round match. In consolations, Dukarm faced off against MIT's Henry Martin but came up short by a 3-0 tally (11-4, 11-5, 11-5).
