Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. -- Koa Kaliebe and Oscar Horwitz capitalized on two late-game goals apiece as No. 16 Franklin & Marshall took down Centennial Conference (CC) opponent No. 23 Johns Hopkins 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats are now 14-2-1, 6-2-1 CC, while Johns Hopkins dropped to 11-3-2, 7-2-0 CC.
Prior to the game, F&M honored eight seniors during its Senior Day celebration: Brice Gambill, Steven Yakita, Brandon Perezous, A.J. Kopacz, Magnus Parente, Kane Feudtner, Carl Friedrich, and Dallen Moore.
Both teams were competitive throughout the first half as both teams evened out with six shots apiece. Two of the six shot attempts were toward the net as
Steven Yakita and
Christian Avila Neres both took rips toward the frame.
F&M nearly got on the board in the 57th minute, as
Connor Anderko found himself with space in the box, but pinged one off the crossbar.
The Diplomats finally found twine in the 70th minute, as a give-and-go between
Isaac Mintz and
Koa Kaliebe set up Kaliebe's go-ahead goal, as the first-year midfielder cut through the box
Oscar Horwitz scored an insurance goal for the Diplomats in the 87th minute, picking the pocket of a Blue Jays defender off a deflected pass from Kane Fuedtner.
Overall, both teams were even in shot attempts with ten apiece.
Steven Yakita and
Christian Avila Neres led the Diplomats with two shots each. F&M had a slight advantage on corner kicks 4-2.
F&M's next task will be a Centennial Conference playoff match against a team to be determined. The Diplomats could finish as the No. 3 seed with a Gettysburg loss/tie tonight, travelling to Washington on Friday OR finish as the No. 5 seed with a Gettysburg win, travelling to the Bullets on Tuesday evening.
