Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall exploded for four goals in the second half to dominate SUNY Poly in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats (15-3-1) advance to the second round against Middlebury, who emerged victorious with a dramatic 1-0 win in the later game. The two sides will meet at 3:00 pm on Sunday afternoon at Tylus Field.
F&M got on the board early with a 12th minute goal from Dallen Moore for the 1-0 edge that held through halftime. The Diplomats ripped seven shots to none in the period, with only a Shay Adamson blast in the 19th minute requiring the keeper.
Then the flood gates opened. Steven Yakita punched in the insurance goal just 56 seconds after the halftime break, compliments of an Oscar Horwitz feed.
Christian Avila Neres got on the board in the 59th, as Yakita added the helper for a 3-0 lead.
Two late goals were tacked on for good measure - one by Ben Ceccio in the 81st and another by Koa Kaliebe in the 85th for the 5-0 final. Nic Petruso and Brandon Perezous
The Diplomats outshot the Wildcats 14-1 on the afternoon, as Magnus Parente led the way with a quartet of blasts.
Sam Altman Farrell (14-3-1) picked up the victory, while Brice Gambill made one save in clean-up duty to complete the shutout.
With the win, F&M advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round for the third straight season, and seventh out of the last eight trips.
