LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's swimming team, ranked 11th in the latest national poll, completed a dominating weekend at the F&M Invitational on Sunday. The Diplomats tallied 1,613 points over their three-day invitational and secured a 210.5 point victory over second place Mount Saint Mary's.
F&M won the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:03.08. That time achieved an NCAA "B" cut and is currently ranked fifth in the country. Brendan Cline was the first leg, followed by Christopher Schiavone, Alec Wahl, and Tom Graminski anchoring.
Christopher Schiavone, Willem Stoll, and Ryan Lawlor also placed first in their respective individual events. Lawlor won the 200 yard butterfly race in a time of 1:55.19. Schiavone was victorious in the 100 yard freestyle event with a time of 45.54 seconds. Brendan Cline finished right with his teammate in 45.58 seconds to earn the silver. Both of those individuals are ranked in the top 14 in the country for that event.
Stoll took his crown in the 1,650 yard freestyle with a time of 16:09.88 to hit an NCAA "B" cut with the 19th fastest time in Division III this season. The Diplomats swept the podium in the distance event as Jason Creed placed second (16:21.21) while Jack Rowe finished in the bronze position (16:27.10). All three F&M times from that event currently rank in the top 35 nationally.
Men's swimming will return to action in two weeks when the Diplomats take part in another three-day event at Denison from December 2-4. That will be the final competition of the calendar year before the team later returns to live action in mid-January.
