Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- Despite largely dominating the game in shots, corners, and time of possession, No. 4 and third-seeded Franklin & Marshall fell 1-0 to second-seeded Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) Semifinal action on Friday night. The Diplomats (14-3-1) will now await their fate on Monday afternoon to see if they will clinch an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. Washington (12-4-1) advances to play the fifth-seeded Gettysburg on Sunday afternoon in Baltimore.
F&M outshot the home-side Washington 15-6, but only a single Diplomat shot found its way on net.
The Diplomats nearly got on the board in the 3rd minute, as Oscar Horwitz pinged one off the post. F&M had a flurry of chances a few minutes later, with three corner kicks in a 1:18 barrage; but Dallen Moore's shot was blocked, and Koa Kaliebe finished high.
F&M controlled the run of play into the second half, outshooting WAC 8-1 in the frame. The final 15 minutes were all Diplomat possession, as a pair of corner kicks and five shots rang out from the feet of F&M to no avail. Koa Kaliebe's 86th minute shot was the only one on net the entire evening for the Diplomats.
The lack of finishing doomed F&M early in the first overtime period, as a cross from the right flank snuck underneath Sam Altman Farrell, and finished at the back post for a 1-0 Washington win just 2:03 into extra time.
Steven Yakita led the way with three shots, while Magnus Parente and Koa Kaliebe both had a pair.
Sam Altman Farrell (13-3-1) made one save in the loss.
F&M now awaits to see if they have been selected for the NCAA tournament, with the selection show beginning on Monday, Nov. 8 at 1:30 pm.
