Men's Soccer Explodes for Six Goals at William Paterson

Box Score

WAYNE, N.J. – The Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team got its offense going in a big way on Wednesday night as the No. 24 Diplomats (5-1) rolled to a 6-1 win at William Paterson. F&M did the majority of its damage over the final 45 minutes, in particular a stretch of just over 16 minutes where the Diplomats scored five goals.

Steven Yakita and A.J. Kopacz both scored a pair of goals while Adam Green and Kane Feudtner also got into the offensive act with goals of their own. Franklin & Marshall finished the night with 24-6 advantage in shots as the Diplomats were very efficient offensively with their six goals coming on just 12 shots on goal.

F&M racked up an 11-1 advantage in shots during the first half, but was held scoreless for the majority of the opening 45 minutes before Yakita finished a pass from Koa Kaliebe with just over one minute remaining before the break.

Creating a ton of pressure on the William Paterson defense the entire match, the floodgates opened in the second half when the Diplomats scored five goals in a span of just 16:01 of playing time. Yakita scored his second goal of the night during the 56th minute before Kopacz followed that up with his first of the night just two minutes later. Kopacz found the back of the net for the second time during the 64th minute, spanning just over six minutes between his goals. Those two strikes give the senior 20 goals in 46 career matches. Shay Adamson recorded the assist on Kopacz's 20th career goal.

First-year Greene and senior Feudtner recorded their first goals of the season to add even more insurance to the lead as the Diplomats stretched their advantage to 6-0. Both players made immediate impacts on the pitch as Green scored just under seven minutes after entering the second half as a sub. Feudtner's goal came within two minutes of him checking into the contest.

The Diplomats did surrender a penalty kick goal during the 81st minute of play, but finished the night with a 24-6 advantage in shots. Sam Altman Farrell made two saves during his 77 minutes of shutout soccer before Brice Gambill closed out the remaining time to solidify the victory.

After three straight road contests, men's soccer will return home this Saturday for a 6 p.m. Centennial Conference battle with McDaniel.
