LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's swimming team swept both Elizabethtown and Susquehanna in a home tri-meet at the Kunkel Aquatic Center as the Diplomats won 11 of the 14 events. F&M improved to 9-0 on the season and has now won 23 straight duals after their wins against Susquehanna (W, 190-67) and Elizabetown (W, 217-39). The team also celebrated Senior Day prior to today's meet before an impressive performance from that senior class.
Senior Christopher Schiavone took first in the 100 yard (47.23) and 200 yard (1:45.32) freestyle events. Matt Hopkins (48.73) and Sean Conley (49.55) completed the sweep of the podium in the 100. Brendan Cline once again was strong in the sprint events as the senior won the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 20.78 seconds and triumphed in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 50.84 seconds. Senior Alec Wahl finished right behind Cline in the 50 with a time of 52.96. Schiavone and Cline also were part of the relay win in addition to their two individual victories. The 200 yard medley of Wahl, Graminski, Cline, and Schiavone took home first place in that event with a time of 1:32.98. Wahl and Evan Willertz took the first two spots in the 100 yard backstroke as Wahl won the event in a time of 53.10 second. Willertz additionally won the 200 yard backstroke, posting a time of 1:57.55.
Jack Rowe was stellar in the distance events as he took both the 500 yard (4:54.23) and 1000 yard (10:15.33) freestyle swims. First-years Kyle Samson (4:54.47) and Matt Hurford (5:03.24) completed rounded out to the top three in that event for the Diplomats. A trio of Diplomats were in full control of the 100 yard breaststroke as senior Tom Graminski secured the victory (59.70), Ethan Kwon received silver (1:01.14), and Cameron Mehta obtained bronze (1:01.60). The 200 yard butterfly was dominated by Tim Turnbull and Ryan Lawlor. Turnbull turned in a race winning time of 2:00.21.
F&M will travel to Washington College in two weeks for its next Centennial Conference dual competition on Saturday, January 29 at 1 p.m.
