LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall has announced the hiring of Connor Rumpit as the Diplomats' head men's and women's swimming coach. Rumpit brings a national championship pedigree to F&M as he spent the last four years as an assistant coach at New York University, most recently leading the women's team to its first-ever national championship in 2026.
Having spent four years as an assistant coach for both the men's and women's swimming teams at NYU, Rumpit's leadership on the national championship team headlined an unprecedented run of success as the Violets finished in the top four of the team standings at the Division III national championship meet during each of the last three seasons. That stretch further included national runner-up finishes for the men (2026) and women (2025). Both the NYU men's and women's teams improved their team placement at the national championship meet every year that Rumpit was on staff. The men's runner-up finish was also that team's highest placement in program history.
During his four seasons as an assistant coach at NYU, Rumpit coached a combined 284 All-Americans and 26 national champions between the men's and women's programs. He was a member of the University Athletic Association (UAA) Coaching Staff of the Year on two occasions (2024, 26) and mentored four UAA Swimmers of the Year (three women, one man) and five UAA Rookies of the Year (three women, two men).
"I am very excited to accept the head swimming coach position at Franklin & Marshall," said Rumpit. "It was clear to me from the moment that I stepped on campus that Franklin & Marshall offers a welcoming community, an exceptional learning environment, and the opportunity to build a highly competitive swim program. I am excited to meet the team and get to work. Go Diplomats!"
Prior to guiding a record-breaking team at NYU, Rumpit began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant and teaching fellow at Springfield College for two seasons (2020-22). While there, he developed and ran workouts and training programs for the swimming team and engaged in recruiting efforts. He also taught physical education courses as part of his teaching fellow duties.
A four-year member of the perennial powerhouse Kenyon swimming team, Rumpit was a six-time All-American. He made the national championship finals and earned first-team All-America honors three times throughout his competitive career. Rumpit set the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) record in the 500 freestyle during his senior season and graduated from Kenyon as a five-time NCAC champion. During his undergraduate career at Kenyon, Rumpit had the unique opportunity to assist the coaching staff during his junior year when he monitored individuals' progression, assisted in campus recruiting, and managed the team's recruiting database.
Rumpit graduated from Kenyon with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 2020. He furthered his education by earning his Master's of Education in athletic administration in 2022 while he was a graduate assistant at Springfield College.
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Rumpit previously served as an assistant coach at the Elmbrook Swim Club in his hometown of Brookfield, Wisconsin. Rumpit initially jumped into coaching as the head coach and pool manager for the Wyoming Swim Club during the summer months when he was a member of the Kenyon swimming team.
