Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa.- Nathan Schlessinger's goal in the 69th minute helped No. 18 Franklin & Marshall (9-1-4, 4-0-2 CC) edge Swarthmore (6-5-3, 1-4-1 CC) 1-0 in Wednesday afternoon's Centennial Conference match.
The Diplomats sent a corner kick into the box that bounced around in front of the net. Schlessinger headed the loose ball past the goal line for his second goal of the season. The Diplomats outshot the Garnet 18-8 in the game, with Philip Monos leading F&M in shots on goal with two attempts on target.
Sam Farrell saved all five shots that he faced in the game, with three saves made in the first half. Swarthmore tested Farrell in the eighth minute on a shot outside the box. Farrell knocked the shot out of the air, but the ball slipped through his hands. The goalkeeper was able to scoop up the rebound before the ball crossed the goal line to keep the game scoreless. It is the third shutout victory for the Diplomats this season.
The Diplomats totaled nine corner kicks to help them put pressure on the Swarthmore defense throughout the match.
F&M returns to Tylus Field Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. to play a CC match against Haverford.
