Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Franklin & Marshall volleyball team made it 18 consecutive set wins with its sixth straight 3-0 sweep on Saturday. This time it was the Shorewomen of Washington College (10-8, 2-2 CC) who fell to the Diplomats (11-6, 4-0 CC) by scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-14. F&M's six straight sweeps mark the longest stretch since the 2013 season when the Diplomats won eight straight matches by a 3-0 score early in that campaign.
Franklin & Marshall hit .326 as a team during its latest outing. Reigning CC Player of the Week Gianna Mangiamele hit .417 for the match with a team-high 10 kills against just two errors in 17 attempts. Sydney Levins swung .300 for the match with nine kills in 20 attempts. Lauren Arnold also had a very efficient afternoon with five kills in nine attempts while not committing a single error. Coco Shultz added six kills to the F&M offense.
The Diplomats were tied at six-all very early in the opening set before running off 11 of the next 13 points to secure the early 1-0 advantage. The second game was within a point at 18-17 in F&M's favor, but the Diplomats again went on a huge run by winning each of the final seven points of that set during Levins' service. The third game was F&M's most convincing of the afternoon. The Shorewomen were within two points for the last time at 7-5 before the visitors scored seven straight. That was more than enough for F&M to cruise to the Centennial Conference victory during the final game.
In addition to the strong swings, F&M additionally racked up 11 service aces on the afternoon, with Liah Perez leading the team with seven in addition to her match-high 16 assists. Perez finished the match with a double-double, also digging up 10 attacks. Meredith Mangum led the Diplomats with 13 digs in addition to her three service aces. Hannah McCarthy's 13 helpers complemented a strong setting performance.
Volleyball will return home this week as it prepares for a Wednesday evening battle against Dickinson inside the Mayser Center. That match on October 12 will get underway with the first serve at 7 p.m.
