CARLISLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's swimming team put forth a great team effort on Saturday as it defeated Dickinson by a 166-95 score in Centennial Conference action. The Diplomats won 11 of the 14 events, including both relays. Perhaps most impressively however was the fact that those nine individual event winners came from nine different individuals in a display of the team's diversity of talent. With the win, the Diplomats improved to 6-1 on the season and have not lost since the opening weekend of the year.
Matt Hopkins got his individual win in the 50 Freestyle (21.82) and was also a member of both the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relays. John Devaney was a second member of both winning relays. Patrick Rooney and Evan Willertz swam the 200 Medley and were other key parts of the winning team. Willertz additionally won the 200 Medley as an individual (2:04.60), while Rooney captured the 200 Breaststroke (2:12.34).
Closing the meet with a strong 200 Freestyle relay, Matt Hurford captured the 100 Freestyle (48.77) as an individual earlier in the meet, with Ben Lockey getting that final relay out to a quick start on the opening leg. Other individual winners on the day included Sean Conley (100 Backstroke/55.67), Sam Kamdin (200 Backstroke/1:59.00), Cameron Mehta (100 Breaststroke/1:01.53), Willem Stoll (500 Freestyle/4:54.44), and Tim Turnbull (100 Butterfly/54.34).
Following its first road competition of the season, men's swimming will return home next weekend for the F&M Invitational that is slated for Friday, November 18 through Sunday, November 20. Preliminaries will be at 10 a.m. each day with event finals starting at 6 p.m.
