KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's indoor track & field team showed itself to be peaking at the right time on Friday afternoon at the Kutztown Last Chance Meet. With a number of personal bests, the Diplomats should enter next week's Centennial Conference Championships with plenty of momentum on their side.
The strongest individual performances came from Abby Lienhard. After previously breaking a school record earlier in the year, the junior set three more personal bests that also rank among the top 10 performances in school history. Her time of 7.65 seconds in the 55 meter finals ranks her third in school history. She also set new personal bests in the long jump (5.06m) and triple jump (9.60m), ranking third and eighth all-time in F&M history. Lena Bell joined Leinhard in the triple jump with a seventh place finish at 8.33 meters.
The throwers also made a huge dent in the school record books. Emma Steffan placed third overall with a weight throw of 13.91 meters. Jillian Barger (12.83m) and Aspen Mazzatta (12.09m) both set personal bests in the event and now sit fourth and eighth in the Diplomat history books. Barger was also sixth in the high jump (1.42m), while Stephani Franks cleared 2.85 meters in the pole vault for another top 10 finish in the field events.
Franklin & Marshall finished the meet with 13 top-10 finishes at Kutztown. On the track, Christline Edward with seventh in the 200 meters (27.76) and ninth in the 55 hurdles (9.81). Tatum Evans added another ninth place finish in the 400 meters (1:05.60). For good measure, Lienhard added a sixth place finish in the 200 meters (27.74).
The 2022 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships are now just one week away. That conference championship will get started on Saturday, February 26 and continue through Sunday, February 27. Ursinus will serve as the host institution of this year's event.
