Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa.-- A hot shooting first quarter by Gettysburg gave the home side an early advantage that Franklin & Marshall struggled to recover from in a 56-36 Bullets victory. The Bullets' (16-2, 14-0 CC) win over the Diplomats (8-11, 6-8 CC) kept them perfect in CC play.
F&M struck first to lead 2-0 early on as a result of a quick
Kennedy Wilburn layup. However, it turned out being the lone lead of the contest for the Diplomats as the Bullets unleashed for a 18-7 run to end the first frame.
The Diplomats kept the game in striking distance throughout the rest of the first half as F&M was only outscored by three (13-10) to head to the locker room down a dozen - 31-19.
F&M pulled out a 7-1 run to end the frame, trimming a once 21 point advantage down to 44-29. An
Ally Trebelev three pointer with 45 seconds remaining polished off the quarter for the Diplomats.
The Diplomats only mustered seven points in the final frame, ultimately falling by a 56-36 final.
F&M were outshot by the Garnets 33.3%-24.5% overall and outrebounded 40-36. The Diplomats held a higher three point percentage (28.6%) beyond the arc over the Bullets (16.7%). F&M also lead in second chance buckets (14-10). The turnovers were a game changer, however, as the Diplomats committed 20 to Gettysburg's 12.
The Diplomats will head back to the Mayser Center on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. to take on Swarthmore, who are currently one spot ahead of F&M in the CC playoff race.
