Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall baseball left no doubt in an 11-0 victory over Gettysburg that clinched a Centennial Conference (CC) postseason berth. Dan Galef tossed eight scoreless innings, and the Diplomats (21-13, 12-3 CC) plated nine runs after the fifth inning to cruise past the Bullets (16-19, 7-9 CC).
The Diplomats kept pace with Swarthmore atop the CC standings, with both sitting at 12-3 in conference play with a weekend doubleheader looming large.
F&M plated one in the third to take a slim 1-0 lead, after Spencer Berson tripled to center to score Tommy Denlinger all the way for first. The three-bagger extended Berson's stretch of games reaching base to 20, and has now reached safely in 28 of his last 29 games.
The Diplomats added on another in the fifth, as Berson singled to center to score Evan Varga for a 2-0 edge.
F&M put their foot on the gas to finish the contest, scoring two in the sixth, three in the seventh and eighth, and another run in the ninth.
AJ Desautels and Pat Elliott scored in the sixth on a passed ball and wild pitch for a 4-0 lead. Elliott tacked on another in the seventh on a single to short, then Patrick Cettina cleared the bases with a two run triple to run it to 7-0.
Jakob Hoffman extended his hitting streak to 14 games, doubling to left center to score Berson for an 8-0 advantage. Will Samuel followed with a two RBI double for a 10-0 lead.
Bobby Falese got in on the action late with a single through the left side that scored Varga. The RBI brought Falese just one run away from tying F&M's all-time season record of 49 RBI with three games to play.
Meanwhile, Dan Galef was twirling a gem in his fourth career start, tossing eight scoreless innings while scattering five hits. The first-year righty walked three while punching out six on strikes in another superb effort. Galef now has a miniscule 0.32 ERA through his last 28 innings dating back to March 13.
Stephen Turzai threw a scoreless ninth to polish off the 11-0 win.
F&M takes on Gettysburg again on Friday afternoon at Caplan Field, starting at 3:30 p.m.
