Throwers Get Women's Track & Field Off to Great Start at CC Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's track & field team is off to a great start at the 2022 Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships after the Diplomats saw three individuals score in the hammer throw on Friday afternoon. Those three throwers combined for 15 team points, and two All-Centennial Conference honors, as F&M is in third place after day one of the three-day meet.

Emma Steffan and Jillian Barger both medaled in the hammer throw despite facing tough conditions on Friday. Steffan took home the silver medal and second-team All-CC accolades with her best throw being measured at 40.45 meters. Barger took the bronze and honorable mention All-CC recognition with her best attempt traveling 39.88 meters. Aspen Mazzatta unleashed a personal-best hammer of 36.32 meters to also finish in a scoring position.

Franklin & Marshall was the only team who scored with three different individuals in the hammer throw. The Diplomats additionally saw Stephani Franks compete in the pole vault that was moved indoors due to the weather. Franks cleared 2.72 meters, placing 11th in the event.

The Diplomats will return to action on Saturday as their day two gets underway at 12 p.m. with the women's long jump. Action on the track for the team starts at 12:25 p.m. with the steeplechase.
