LANCASTER, Pa. – Just one day after winning all 14 events in its dual against Susquehanna, the Franklin & Marshall women's swimming team won eight of the 11 events at Bryn Mawr on Saturday to come away with a 130-68 Centennial Conference victory. The win marks the Diplomats fourth straight and moves the team to 4-2 in Centennial action.
Sophie Bergstrom led the Diplomats with a pair of victories as she took first in both the 200 and 500 Freestyle events. Bergstrom his the wall in 2:05.47 during the 200 and followed that up with a time of 5:29.18 in the 500 Free. She was one of five individual winners on the day for the Diplomats.
Julie McFadden and Sophie Moyer both led 1-2-3 finishes in their respective event victories. McFadden won the 50 Freestyle (25.05) as the school record holder was followed closely by Helen Lahmann-Metcalfe (25.17) and Olivia Lockey (25.58). Moyer took first in the 100 Freestyle (55.60), with Sarah Gartner (57.93) and Emma Devine (58.67) taking second and third.
McFadden and Moyer both took part in a total of four Franklin & Marshall event wins as each also swam on the winning 200 Freestyle and 200 Medley Relays. Lockey and Amelia Bothwell swam the first and fourth legs on the 200 Freestyle Relay, while Maya Blaisure and Rachel Baker helped solidify the Diplomats' win in the 200 Medley Relay.
In addition to her runner-up finish, Gartner was first in the 1,000 Freestyle (11:24.24) and joined Kathy Peitz-Diaz as an event champion as Peitz-Diaz won the 100 Backstroke (1:04.75).
Women's swimming will wrap up Centennial Conference action next Saturday as the Diplomats host Washington College on January 28. The conference matchup with the Shorewomen is set for a 1 p.m. start inside the Kunkel Aquatic Center.
