COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - With a six-game winning streak on the line, the Franklin & Marshall Field Hockey team battled to defeat No. 16 Ursinus in a penalty shootout on Wednesday night.
Less than three minutes into the second quarter,
Kat Study broke the scoreless draw by scoring off of an assist from
Jessica Miller to put the Diplomats up 1-0.
The two teams then failed to add to the scoreboard for the next 38 minutes before a penalty corner opportunity led to a game-tying goal for Gigi Testa.
A total of nine shots were taken by the two teams in the extra 20 minutes, with the Bears outshooting F&M 6-3, but neither sides were able to end the game, sending it into a penalty shootout.
Alison McCarey scored on the Diplomats' first attempt, but was answered by a successful attempt by Lauren Franz.
Keira Boensch then scored in the next round and was followed by a save by
Meghan Dole on Marie Brainard. After
Carolina Riley added another tally for F&M, Dole denied Ellie Bruggerman for a second straight stop.
Hannah Fitzgerald buried the fourth attempt for the Diplomats as F&M knocked off Ursinus on the road.
In addition to her performance in the shootout, Dole made 15 saves across 80 minutes.
The Diplomats will be back at Tylus Field this Saturday, October 14 to take on Haverford at 12 p.m.
