LANCASTER, Pa. - The Franklin & Marshall Volleyball team had its six-match winning streak snapped on Wednesday night, falling to Gettysburg in four sets.
The Diplomats controlled the opening of the first game, taking a 11-5 lead thanks to a 7-1 run. With F&M later up 14-7, the Bullets won five straight points to make it 14-12. Continuing to stay in striking distance, the Bullets re-took the lead at 19-17 following a 4-0 run. Gettysburg did not look back, as it won the first set 25-21.
Another strong start in the second frame led to a 5-1 Diplomat advantage, but was quickly cut into by the Bullets, who made it 7-6. Though the two team's went back-and-forth for the remainder of the set, F&M never lost the lead, and eventually gained breathing room with the score at 17-13. Gettysburg did manage to get even at 21-21, but it was short lived as the Diplomats closed out the game, 25-21.
Neither team led by more than five in the third stanza, with the Diplomats taking the largest lead at 13-8. The Bullets would then even the score at 16-16, and later took a 20-18 edge after winning three consecutive rallies. After Gettysburg went up 24-23,
Coco Shultz staved off a game point with a kill. The Bullets quickly ended the tiebreaker, however, winning back-to-back points immediately after.
F&M failed to lead for the rest of the night, as Gettysburg opened up a 10-4 advantage and never looked back. After multiple runs by the Bullets, Gettysburg led by as much as 12 at 20-8. Winning five of the final seven points, the Bullets ended the match in dominant fashion.
Gianna Mangiamele and
Lauren Arnold each recorded 10 kills, with
Hannah McCarthy providing 17 assists. Additionally,
Meredith Mangum added 14 digs on the defensive end.
The Diplomats will remain at home as they welcome Muhlenberg to the Mayser Center on Saturday, October 14 at 1 p.m.
