LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 9 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (11-1-2, 4-0-2 CC) used four goals from
Oscar Horwitz to power past Johns Hopkins (8-3-3, 3-2-1 CC), 4-3, in Saturday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) contest at Tylus Field.
Horwitz' four goals improve his tally to 18 on the season, which breaks the program single-season goals record that was previously held by Mark Micolucci '87 with 17 in the 1986 season. All four of the senior's scores came on an assist from
Koa Kaliebe in the game. The duo's performance helped Horwitz tie the program record for most goals in a single game, while Kaliebe tied the F&M record for most assists in a single match.
Johns Hopkins jumped out in front with the game's first goal in the seventh minute, but F&M continued to possess the ball for a majority of the early portion of the match. The Diplomats drew a foul in the 25th minute to set up a free kick in the offensive area. Kaliebe sent a crossing pass into the box that was headed into the back of the net for Horwitz' first goal of the night. Three minutes later, Kaliebe forced the JHU defense to turn the ball over inside the Blue Jays' box. The junior found Horwitz in front of a wide-open net to give the Diplomats the lead – giving Horwitz his seventh game-winning goal of the season to tie the single-season record that Ben Beaver '13 set in 2013.
The Diplomats continued to add onto the lead as the Kaliebe to Horwitz connection was seen in both the 35th and 69th minute marks of the contest.
Johns Hopkins worked its way back into the game with goals in the 73rd and 78th minute, but the deficit was too great to overcome.
Franklin & Marshall as team racked up 12 total shots, with 10 on goal. Horwitz tallied six shots with five on net in the victory.
Ninth-ranked F&M hits the road to play Dickinson Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
