LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 5 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (13-1-2, 6-0-2 CC) only needed one goal in Saturday evening's match to down Gettysburg (4-7-3, 1-4-3 CC), 1-0 - extending the Diplomats' winning streak to eight games. Before the contest, the F&M men's soccer team honored its eight seniors on Senior Night. Those seniors included
Ian Kagan,
Charlie Sears,
Oscar Horwitz,
Connor Anderko,
Philip Monos,
Ethan Senatore,
Owen Sobel, and
Nick Pine.
The games' lone score came in the 61st minute as the Diplomats pushed a relentless attack on Gettysburg's defensive area.
Wes Wise carried the ball near the end line and sent a crossing pass towards the center of the box that was deflected by the Bullets' goalkeeper. The loose ball found the foot of
Jack Baer, who buried his second goal of the season on the play. Wise picked up his third assist of the season on the score.
F&M outshot the Bullets, 13-9, with Baer attempting a game-high three shots in the match.
Goalkeeper
Nolan Booth saved the only two shots that he faced to claim his fourth shutout of the season. It is the Diplomats' fifth clean sheet of the fall.
No. 5 Franklin & Marshall now gets set for a big road matchup against Washington College Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the regular season. The Diplomats need to win or tie their game against the Shoremen to clinch the No. 1 seed in the Centennial Conference Tournament. Nonetheless, F&M has secured a top-two seed in the conference playoffs.
