No. 18 Men's Soccer Strikes Early, Downs Lancaster Bible, 3-1

LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 18 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (10-1-2, 3-0-2 CC) claimed a 3-1 victory over Lancaster Bible (5-6-2, 2-1 United East) in the Diplomats' final non-conference game of the regular season Monday evening at Tylus Field.

F&M came out of the gates firing as the Diplomats immediately pushed the ball to the front of the LBC net. Owen Sobel fired a shot that was saved, but the rebound kicked out to Oscar Horwitz who headed his shot into the left side of the net to put the hosts up 1-0 in the third minute.

Franklin & Marshall kept its foot on the gas as it continued to relentlessly apply pressure on the Chargers' defense. In the 16th minute, Horwitz was fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick. The senior capitalized on the opportunity and rocketed his shot into the bottom-right corner of the cage to put the Diplomats ahead, 2-0. The score was his Centennial Conference-leading 14th goal of the season. Horwitz is now 2-for-2 on penalty kicks this fall.

Lancaster Bible broke into the scoring column in the 50th minute to cut the deficit in half. The Chargers continued to attack the Diplomats net with a chance to tie the game in the 67th minute. A crossing pass in front of the F&M net set up a golden chance for LBC's Tommy Elder to bury the equalizer, but a huge save by Nolan Booth denied the visitors' chance of tying the contest.

F&M added insurance in the 76th minute on a free kick opportunity as Koa Kaliebe connected with Jack Nury, who redirected the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.

In the win, Kaliebe was credited with his fourth assist of the season while Sobel earned his first of the fall.

Franklin & Marshall outshot Lancaster Bible, 23-9, in the contest with Horwitz leading the game with six shot attempts. The Diplomats also earned six corner kicks, while denying LBC of any corner opportunities.

No. 18 F&M now prepares to host Johns Hopkins on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
