LANCASTER, Pa. - Placing first in three of five events, the Franklin & Marshall Men's Swimming enjoyed a successful first day at the F&M Invitational.
With seven qualifiers for the 500-yard freestyle final, including three in the 'A' final, Matthew Hurford registered a top-three finish with a time of 4:42.74. He was followed by
Matthew Tilghman, who was just a hundredth of a second behind Hurford.
The Diplomats then had eight qualifiers in the 200-yard IM final in which
Sean Conley topped the race with a time of 1:53.47.
Evan Willertz finished sixth in the same heat with a time of 1:55.72.
Rounding out the individual events for the day with the 50-yard freestyle final,
Ben Lockey placed in third with a time of 21.01.
John Devaney and
Henry Tavens also made the 'A' final and finished fifth and eighth, respectively.
Amongst three F&M teams in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the 'A' team of
Sam Kamdin, Hurford, Lockey and Devaney won the event with a time of 1:22.90.
In the 400-yard medley relay, the 'A' team of Kamdin,
Patrick Rooney, Willertz and Devaney finished first as well with a time of 3:22.13.
After the day's end, the Diplomats are in first place with a team score of 532.5. They will return to action tomorrow with preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m. at the Alumni Sports and Fitness Center.
