HAVERFORD, Pa. - In the second of its two-game road trip, the Franklin & Marshall Men's Basketball team came up with a 70-63 win over Haverford on Saturday afternoon. After setting a career-high earlier this week against Gettysburg,
Vakaris Grauslys once again led the way with a personal-best 27 points.
The Diplomats got off to quick start within the first four minutes, shooting 3-of-3 from beyond the arc to take a 9-0 lead. By the 14-minute mark, F&M extended its advantage to 17-7 after a pair of three-pointers by
Jaylen Green. Following a Gabriel Franklin made shot from distance to cut the deficit to seven,
Omar Nichols and Grauslys each knocked down a shot from deep to put the Diplomats up by 13.
Later leading 26-14, Nichols scored four straight points to give F&M its largest lead of the game at 16. However, the Fords outscored the Diplomats 14-3 over the final six-and-a-half minutes of the half to close the gap to 33-28 heading into the break. In that span, F&M shot just 1-of-7 and failed to hit a three-point shot.
Coming out of the locker room, the Diplomats built their lead back up to double-digits after a 7-2 run in the opening two minutes, but eight unanswered Haverford points made it a one-possession game with 13 minutes left to play in regulation. The two team then traded a pair of buckets each before a 6-2 F&M run put the Diplomats up 50-44 with less than eight minutes remaining.
Continuing to stay within striking distance, the Fords trailed by just five at 53-48 until six consecutive points by the Diplomats gave F&M a double-digit lead once again. Staying in front by at least seven for rest of the way, the Diplomats moved to 6-0 on the season.
Off the bench, Green registered 11 points on 3-of-6 shooting from deep, making it four games of double-digit scoring for the senior.
Josh Parra led the team in rebounding with 10 boards. Shooting 12-of-24 from the three-point line as a team, F&M had a season-best performance from beyond the arc.
In their return to the Mayser Center, the Diplomats will welcome Johns Hopkins to Lancaster, Pa. on Wednesday, December 6 at 8 p.m.
