KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Despite sending just a limited number of entrants to the Kutztown Last Chance Qualifier on Friday, the Franklin & Marshall women's indoor track & field team came away with three event titles and numerous personal bests during the team's final competition before next weekend's Centennial Conference Championships.
Claiming event titles for the Diplomats were Glory Edioma (55m hurdles), Sydney Dzenutis (800m), and Jillian Barger (weight throw). Edioma had a fantastic day overall as she posted the fourth-best 55 meter hurdle time in school history(9.40) during her win, while additionally recording the fifth-best 55 meter dash time (7.80 seconds). Hope Petralia just missed another event championship in the sprints as she took second in the 200 meters (27.83).
Dzenutis won the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:22.47. That PR keeps the Franklin & Marshall senior ranked sixth in school history for the event. F&M took four of the top five spots in the 800m vent, with Valerie Fieberg, Alysse Danyi, and Abby Bachman claiming the third through fifth positions.
The Diplomats' final event victory came from Jillian Barger in the weight throw as her best attempt measured at 13.94 meters. Also in the field events, Allison Huelbig was second in the high jump after clearing 1.50 meters to match her personal best. Huelbig later led the team's efforts in the triple jump (9.41m), while Abby Lienhard took third in the long jump (5.26m).
Women's indoor track & field will see the whole team return to competition next weekend when the Diplomats host the 2023 Centennial Conference Championships inside the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center. That championship meet gets underway on Saturday, February 25 and continues into Sunday, February 26.
