Box Score ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (11-8) extended its winning streak to 10 as the Diplomats cruised to an 8-3 win at Elizabethtown (9-5) Tuesday afternoon. The Diplomats winning streak hit double-digits for the first time since the 2002 season when F&M claimed 13-straight wins without a loss.
After AJ Desautels led off the game with a single into left field, F&M worked three-straight walks to get on the scoreboard first in the contest. Pat Cettina followed with a single down the left field line to score Bobby Falese and Jakob Hoffman – giving the Diplomats an early 3-0 edge.
Elizabethtown broke into the scoring column in the bottom of the third with a run of their own to cut the deficit to two.
The F&M offense once again picked up in the top of the sixth as the Diplomats loaded the bases with two outs. After Elizabethtown made a move to the bullpen, Spencer Berson laced a pitch into the right center field gap. The ball landed just out of reach of the diving Blue Jays' right fielder and rolled to the wall as Berson raced to third for a bases-clearing triple - extending F&M's lead to 7-1.
Elizabethtown scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Blue Jays were shut down by Thomas McLaughlin and Shane Rebane as the two pitchers didn't allow a hit for the rest of the game.
Offensively, Berson led the game with two hits and four RBI in the contest. Pat Elliott and Falese also tallied two hits in the win. Desautels led the game in runs scored with three.
Bijan Anvar (1-1) collected his first win of the season on the mound, striking out five and allowing just one hit in four innings.
Franklin & Marshall now prepares for a road test at No. 23 Montclair State on Saturday. First pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
