Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (21-12, 8-3 CC) powered past Washington College (11-21, 1-10 CC), 13-5, in its Centennial Conference matchup Tuesday afternoon. Bobby Falese and Andrew Filippelli led the Diplomats offense with four hits each in the contest. Filippelli recorded a game-high four RBI as four total F&M players ended the day with multiple RBI in the win.
The Diplomats got onto the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning as Tommy Denlinger and Pat Elliott scored on a single from Filippelli to put F&M up 2-0.
In the top of the third, Falese displayed his opposite-field power as he ripped a solo home run over the right field fence for his fourth homer of the season. The blast is the junior's 13th career home run – tying teammate Jakob Hoffman for second-most in program history.
Later in the inning, Denlinger singled and came around to score on a single from Elliott. A single into center field from Filippelli plated Elliott and extended the visitors' lead to 5-0.
A four-run fourth inning got Washington College back into the game as the Shoremen narrowed the deficit to one.
In the top of the fifth, F&M loaded the bases for AJ Desautels to rip a two-out two-RBI double into left field. Two batters later, Falese singled to score both Tommy Alexander and Desautels to extend the Diplomats' lead to 9-4.
After WAC scored a run in the bottom of the fifth, F&M went right back to work in the top of the sixth as Filippelli roped a double into right field to score Patrick Cettina from second – extending the lead to 10-5.
Franklin & Marshall outhit the Shoremen, 15-4, in the contest.
In addition to Falese and Filippelli's strong offensive showings, Desautels and Elliott each tallied two hits in the game. Desautels finished the game with three RBI, while Elliott drove in two in the win.
Bijan Anvar (3-1) was dominant in his start as the sophomore earned his third win of the season. Anvar struck out seven while allowing three hits and two earned runs in five innings on the mound.
Franklin & Marshall plays host to the Shoremen on Friday as the teams will wrap up the home-and-home series at Clipper Magazine Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
