Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – As the regular season winds down, the Franklin & Marshall baseball team (24-13, 11-4 CC) picked up a big 8-4 victory over Centennial Conference foe Dickinson (21-13-1, 9-5 CC) Tuesday afternoon at Caplan Field. With a two-run home run in the first inning that propelled the Diplomats into the lead, Bobby Falese joined Scott Haft '05 and teammate Jakob Hoffman atop the F&M career-home run list with his 14th career blast.
The Diplomats weren't done scoring in the first as Andrew Filippelli singled to plate Hoffman. The next batter, Pat Elliott, doubled down the left field line to score two – extending the F&M lead to 5-0.
After Tommy Denlinger walked to start the bottom of the second, Falese picked up his third RBI of the game as he roped a triple into left center field. The junior shortstop later scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 7-0.
Dickinson scored two runs in top of the fifth, then added two more in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit to 7-4. A pair of fielding errors kept the eighth frame alive for the Red Devils as the visitors loaded the bases with two outs. Answering the call out of the bullpen, Shane Rebane picked up a swinging strikeout to escape the jam.
Denlinger, Falese, Filippelli, and Hoffman each tallied two hits in the win.
Bijan Anvar (5-1) cruised through his start to claim his fifth win of the season. Anvar tied his career-high in strikeouts with seven, while allowing just one earned run and three hits in six innings of work. Rebane earned his first save of the season – only allowing one hit in 1.1 innings of relief.
Franklin & Marshall completes the home-and-home series on the road against Dickinson Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Diplomats then welcome No. 1 Johns Hopkins on Senior Day Saturday at noon.
