Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (16-10, 3-1 CC) racked up 12 hits to score 15 runs in a 15-3 victory over Gettysburg (14-11, 1-3 CC) Friday afternoon - sweeping the Bullets in the home-and-home series.
The Diplomats got on the scoreboard first in the contest as AJ Desautels was hit by a pitch and later came around to score on a fielder's choice in the top of the first inning. Gettysburg answered in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI-single to tie the game at 1-1.
In the top of the third, Bobby Falese reached base on an error in the infield to lead off the inning. After Jakob Hoffman drew a walk, Drew Butera roped a double into the right center field gap to score both runners – giving F&M a 3-1 lead.
F&M extended its lead in the top of the fourth as Tommy Denlinger scored on a single from Desautels to grow the Diplomats' lead to 4-1.
F&M added a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth inning to push its lead to 6-1.
Butera and Conner Rush hit back-to-back singles to lead off the top of the seventh. After Patrick Cettina drew a walk to load the bases, Denlinger ripped a single through the left side of the infield to drive in Butera and Rush. As the ball was thrown back into the infield, Denlinger raced to second – drawing a throw from the cut-off man and allowing Cettina to also score on the play.
Leading 9-1 in the top of the eighth, the Diplomats added another run on an RBI-single from Rush. After Cettina walked to load the bases, Matt Hollender drew a walk of his own to plate Butera and push F&M's lead to 11-1. After Rush scored on a sacrifice fly from Denlinger, Desautels cleared the bases with his second home run in as many games to extend the F&M lead to 15-1.
Franklin & Marshall as a team drew 15 walks in the contest, which is a new program single-game record. The Diplomats drew 14 walks in last week's 17-14 win at TCNJ.
Butera led F&M with three hits, followed by Denlinger, Desautels, Hoffman, and Rush each tallying two. Desautels drove in a game-high four RBI with Denlinger close behind, recording three RBI in the victory.
Kyle Roche (2-4) earned his second win of this season, tossing six strikeouts with one earned run in eight solid innings on the mound.
The Diplomats return home to Caplan Field Saturday for a doubleheader against McDaniel. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
