HAVERFORD, Pa. – The ninth-ranked Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (5-0-1, 0-0-1 CC) played Haverford (1-0-5, 0-0-1 CC) to a 1-1 tie in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) opener.
Oscar Horwitz' 84th minute goal was the equalizer that helped the Diplomats continue their six-game unbeaten streak.
F&M and Haverford remained deadlocked until the 79th minute when the Fords capitalized on a free kick to take a 1-0 advantage. However, the deficit didn't faze the Diplomats as the visitors' found the back of the net just five minutes later.
Adam Green drew a foul just outside the box to generate a free kick in the 84th that was taken by
Philip Monos. The senior sent a crossing pass into the box that was headed into the cage by Horwitz to tie the game up at 1-1. The score was Horwitz' team-leading eighth goal of the season and his sixth in the last three games. Meanwhile, Monos was credited with his second assist of the fall on the play.
Franklin & Marshall dominated the shot column with 31 total attempts (seven on net) while facing just three shots during the match. Horwitz led the game with 12 shots and four attempts on goal.
Nico Gonzalez followed with four shots and one on target in the game.
F&M also took 11 corner kicks in the match, while Haverford tallied two.
Franklin & Marshall wraps up its three-game road trip on Wednesday when the Diplomats take on Kean at 7:30 p.m. F&M returns to Tylus Field on Saturday to host Swarthmore at 6:00 p.m.
