Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Fights Hard Against No. 14 Kean

UNION, N.J. - The Franklin & Marshall Field Hockey team fell short of its comeback attempt, losing 4-2 to No. 14 Kean. Trailing 3-0 to begin the second half, the Diplomats scored two goals in the third quarter but were unable to get even with the Cougars.

After the two teams each registered two shots to begin the contest, a penalty corner for Kean in the final minute of the opening quarter led to a Madison Gonzales goal, assisted by Madison Brege.

Five minutes into the second quarter, the Cougars struck again, as Peyton Mann scored off of another pass from Brege. Kean was then awarded a penalty corner in the 23rd minute, which Morgan buried into the net. Though F&M took two penalty corners to close out the second frame, the score remained 2-0 heading into halftime.

Just over one minute into the third quarter, Carolina Riley put the Diplomats on the board with a goal, assisted by Darby Klopp. Almost immediately after, Keira Boensch added a second score for F&M, with Jessica Miller providing the assist. The Diplomats took three more shots for the rest of the quarter and allowed just one to the Cougars, as it became a one-goal game going into the final 15 minutes.

After Boensch was called for a green card in the 47th minute, Mann scored her second goal of the game, assisted by Hannah Morris. The deficit became too large to overcome, as Kean held on to a 4-2 win.

F&M managed to outshoot the Cougars over the course of the game, 15-13, with Boensch taking a team-high three shots. Meghan Dole tallied five saves in net on 12 shots faced.

The Diplomats will return home on Wednesday, September 20 at 4:30 p.m. to welcome Alvernia to Tylus Field.
