Saturday 9/16
Lancaster, PA – Franklin and Marshall Club Men's Soccer struck early and often defeating the Widener Pride by a score of 8-0.
After a Pride turnover and an excellent through ball,
Pat Ryan buried the first goal of the season for the Diplomats 10 minutes into the first half. Minutes later on a very similar play,
Diego Barron-Maya was able to find the back of the net for the first time this season, giving the Diplomats a 2-0 lead.
Moments before the first half whistle, the Diplomat's were awarded a penalty kick. Calix Milligan-Fernandez stepped to the line and snuck a shot right by the goalies left foot to make it 3-0 at the half.
In the second half it was much of the same for the Diplomats. Goals from
John Henne,
Anthony Tepetitla,
Owen Johnson, and
Harein Abeysekera twice stretched the Diplomats lead to 8-0. Widener did have a few opportunities to score late in the second half, but a trio of Diplomat goalies earned a second straight clean sheet.
Sunday 9/17
Mechanicsburg, PA – In its first road contest of the season, the Franklin & Marshall College Club Men's Soccer team took on host Messiah College, falling 0-3.
Messiah was able to score twice early in the first half and took the 2-0 lead into the half. As the rains calmed in the second half the Diplomats looked to get back into striking range, but the Falcons defense held. Late in the second half the Falcons used a corner kick to score the third and final goal of the contest.
The Diplomats will be on the road for two more games next weekend. On Saturday the team will travel to West Chester (2-1-2) followed by a Sunday trip to Dickinson (1-1-0).
