LANCASTER, Pa. - The Franklin & Marshall Volleyball team took down both SUNY Geneseo and Elizabethtown on Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Liah Perez racked up 46 combined kills between both matches while
Gianna Mangiamele totaled 19 kills.
GAME 1 - SUNY GENESEO
The Knights opened up the first set with a 9-8 lead before the Diplomats scored six consecutive points to take a 14-9 advantage. SUNY Geneseo got to within three, trailing 14-17, but F&M closed out the frame with an 8-0 run to take the first set.
After a brief 4-2 lead for the Knights to begin the second frame, the Dips scored nine of the next 11 points and never trailed for the rest of the set, winning 25-17.
SUNY Geneseo again led F&M to begin a set, up 16-14 in the third stanza. However, a 6-1 Diplomats run created an insurmountable gap for the Knights.
GAME 2 - ELIZABETHTOWN
In the final contest of the Scramble Tournament, F&M dominated to start the game, holding a 6-1 lead in the first set. The Blue Jays then rallied to take a 9-8 advantage, but never led for the rest of the frame. Leading 16-14, the Diplomats won nine of the final 12 points to claim the set.
Neither team led by more than four points in the second stanza, and were tied 22-22 before F&M won three straight points for a 2-0 lead.
Similar to the second set, the Diplomats and Blue Jays were knotted up at 18-18 in the third. F&M then scored six unanswered points and finished the match with a Mangiamele kill.
The Diplomats will continue their season on the road as they travel to Center Valley, Pa. to take on DeSales on Wednesday, September 6 at 7 p.m.
