LANCASTER, Pa. - In its return to the Mayser Center, the Franklin & Marshall Volleyball team swept York (Pa.), 3-0. It was the fifth sweep of the year for the Diplomats.
F&M got off to a quick start in the first set, opening up with an 11-4 lead. After a 9-4 Spartans run, including six straight points, the Diplomat advantage was cut to two. However, F&M recovered immediately by winning the next three points. With the Diplomats ahead, 21-15, F&M claimed four of the final five points to take the set.
York began the second set with a 4-0 edge, but a 7-4 Diplomat run evened the score. The two team then traded the next five points before F&M erupted for nine consecutive points. The Diplomats would go on to comfortably close out the set, 25-16.
The third remained back-and-forth to start, with the Spartans holding a slim, 10-8 edge. Once again, however, F&M pulled ahead using another large run, scoring six straight points. Later leading 15-12, the Diplomats added to their advantage with a 5-0 run. F&M then clinched the match with a 25-17 win in the final frame.
Following her career-best performances at the Trinity Fall Classic last weekend,
Meredith Mangum tallied a team-high 13 digs against York.
Coco Shultz led the team with nine kills while
Liah Perez totaled 16 assists.
The Diplomats will remain at home as they take on Lancaster Bible on Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m. at the Mayser Center.
