LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 9 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (5-1-2, 0-0-2 CC) and Swarthmore (1-3-3, 0-0-2 CC) ended in a 1-1 tie in Saturday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) contest at Tylus Field.
After a scoreless first half, Swarthmore broke into the scoring column first in the 59th minute on a shot that just snuck inside the left post.
Trailing 1-0 with the game winding down,
Nico Gonzalez drew a foul deep in the offensive area – setting up a free kick for
Koa Kaliebe in the 87th minute. Kaliebe's shot was a rocket into the top-right corner of the net to tie the game. The score was Kaliebe's fourth goal of the fall with all four being game-tying goals in their respective games.
F&M peppered Swarthmore's net with 25 total shots, with only six being on net in the game. The Diplomats had multiple opportunities on offense, but their best chance came in the 40th minute as F&M caused a turnover in the midfield.
Adam Green found the foot of
Wes Wise inside the box, but the first-year forward put his shot over the crossbar - keeping the game scoreless.
Kaliebe led the Diplomats with eight shots, followed by
Oscar Horwitz tallying seven shots in the match.
No. 9 Franklin & Marshall begins a three-game road trip starting on Wednesday at Ursinus. The contest against Bears is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
