LANCASTER, Pa. – After a historic week in the kicking game, Franklin & Marshall junior Laurence Miller has been named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week. Miller's honor marks the second consecutive week a Diplomat has been named to the national team of the week. With this latest honor, F&M has now had multiple players receive this national award in the same season for the first time since 2007.
Miller is the first F&M kicker to receive this honor since Dan Eggertsson who received this honor four times between the 2002 and 2004 seasons. During this past week's home-opening 34-9 win against The College of New Jersey, Miller was 2-for-2 on field goals and 4-for-4 on extra points, accumulating 10 points.
The F&M junior connected with room to spare from 50 yards in the first quarter and 43 yards during the second quarter. The 50-yard field goal was tied for the second-longest kick in program and makes him just the second kicker in program history to connect from 50-plus years (Mark Slevin). Miller additionally handled all seven kickoffs, recording five touchbacks while averaging 64.7 yards per kickoff.
Football will return to action this Friday, September 29 for another game under the lights as they make the trip to Dickinson to Battle for The Conestoga Wagon. That rivalry matchup with the Red Devils is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Carlisle.
