CARLISLE, Pa. - Down 25-23 at halftime, the Franklin & Marshall Men's Basketball team held Dickinson to just 17 points over the final 20 minutes and defeated the Red Devils 56-42. It was win number 13 on the season for the Diplomats, who have now won their most games in a single campaign since 2018-19.
In what a tightly contested first half, neither team led by more than four with the score seeing 12 lead changes and five ties. By the 16-minute mark, the two teams combined for just four field goals made as the score was level at 5-5. The Diplomats then knocked down three of their next four shots from the field, including a three-pointer from
Vakaris Grauslys, but with Dickinson draining a pair of shots from long range on the other end, F&M held a slim 12-11 advantage with 13 minutes remaining in the frame.
Over the next four minutes, the Red Devils outscored the Diplomats 5-1 to go ahead 16-13, as F&M failed to make a field goal in that span.
John Seidman, however, broke the drought with back-to-back buckets and gave the Diplomats a 17-16 advantage. In the final eight minutes of the half, F&M shot 1-of-13 from the floor, but with four free throws made and Dickinson being limited to nine more points, the Diplomats trailed by just two at the intermission.
With the Red Devils up 30-25 at the 17-minute mark of the second period, F&M scored eight straight points, led by back-to-back three-pointers by
Kevin Nowoswiat and
Jaylen Green, to go in front for the first time in nearly nine minutes of play. Dickinson responded with four unanswered points of its own to re-take the lead, but an 8-2 F&M run gave the Diplomats the lead for good for the remainder of the game. In the last nine minutes of the game, F&M restricted the Red Devils to just 2-of-13 shooting from the field and forced four turnovers, while Grauslys scored 10 of his 17 points on the night in that frame.
In addition to his scoring, Grauslys added 10 rebounds, marking his first both a career-high and his first career double-double. The 42 points scored by Dickinson were the fewest allowed by the Diplomats since December of 2019 against St. Elizabeth.
Returning home for the next two tilts, F&M will welcome Haverford to the Mayser Center on Saturday, January 20 at 3 p.m.
