Women's Basketball Tripped Up By Gettysburg

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (8-9, 3-9 CC) was defeated, 47-33, by Gettysburg (14-3, 11-1 CC), a team receiving votes in the national polls, in Tuesday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) game at the Mayser Center.

The Diplomats started the game with layups from Lizzie Neville and Jaclyn Feit on consecutive possessions to score the first four points of the contest. From that point, F&M went ice cold from the field while Gettysburg began a 24-0 swing across the next 12 minutes of play. The Diplomats broke up the scoring drought with a jumper from Neville with 6:02 left in the half. Ally Trebelev added three more points, followed by a mid-range jumper from Leila Walton to cut the Bullets' lead to 24-11. The visitors responded with three points to end the half with the lead, 27-11.

Franklin & Marshall battled back in the second half – outscoring the Bullets, 12-8, to reduce the deficit to 35-23. The Diplomats got back to within 10 as Trebelev made a layup to start the fourth quarter. However, that would be as close as they would get as Gettysburg held off the Diplomats from narrowing the score any further.

Despite the slow start, F&M as a team shot 36 percent from the field in the second half to keep the game within reach. Feit led the Diplomats with 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Neville followed with seven points, four assists, and three steals in the contest.

Franklin & Marshall hits the road in attempt to complete the season-series sweep over Bryn Mawr Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
