LANCASTER, Pa. - In its first home game in nearly a month, the Franklin & Marshall Men's Basketball team earned a Centennial Conference win over McDaniel, edging the Green Terror 57-53. It was the fewest points allowed by the Diplomats this season.
Within the first six minutes of the game, McDaniel shot 6-of-10 from the floor, including a pair of made three-pointers, and held a slim 14-9 advantage. However, F&M responded with 14 unanswered points over the next seven minutes while holding the Green Terror to 0-of-8 shooting from the field. The Diplomats never trailed for the remainder of the game following that run, with the scoring being tied just one more time. In the final three minutes of the half, F&M knocked down two more shots from beyond the arc, and took a 31-22 lead heading into the break.
By the 14-minute mark of the second frame, McDaniel brought the deficit down to three after an 11-5 run to begin the frame. With under 10 minutes remaining in the game, the Green Terror evened the game at 40-40 with a Jonas Sujeta layup, marking the first tie since the score was 0-0. However, a 12-2 run over the next six minutes gave F&M much needed breathing room.
McDaniel did fight back though, scoring seven consecutive points to make it a 52-49 with just over a minute left to go in regulation. Inching closer, the Green Terror made it a two-point game with 22 seconds remaining, but the Diplomats made four of their six free throw attempts over their final three possessions to seal the game.
Leading the winning efforts for F&M was
Josh Parra, who registered his second double-double of the season with 14 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. As a team, F&M scored more than double the points off of turnovers than McDaniel with 13.
Up next, the Diplomats will travel to Muhlenberg on Tuesday, January 9 at 1 p.m.
