ALLENTOWN, Pa.-
Isabelle Allen's first-career goal in the second quarter gave the Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (7-5, 4-1) an early advantage, while
Hannah Fitzgerald's fourth-quarter goal sealed a 2-0 win at Muhlenberg College (5-7, 0-5) on Saturday evening.
Allen was the first person to a rebounded
Sarah Weitzman shot that came from a penalty corner, finding plenty of space to the goalkeeper's left for the opening goal. Allen's goal capped a first half where the Diplomats out-shot the Mules 8-1.
Hannah Fitzgerald had three of the team's shots in the half, including two shots on goal that she created via dispossessing opponents and driving downfield. The lone Muhlenberg shot was blocked by
Megan Dadio on a penalty corner.
Abby D'Anjolell played a key part in creating the second goal, driving 20 yards herself down the right wing, beating her defender one-on-one, and playing a cross past a crowded near post to Fitzgerald on the far post for a tap-in goal. The Diplomats out-shot their opponents 9-3 in the second half, as
Keira Boensch, Fitzgerald, and
Grace Fass each had a shot on goal.
The Diplomats' defense allowed just four total shots overall, with
Meghan Dole having to make just one save in the final minute of action off a penalty corner.
The Diplomats continue their Centennial Conference slate as they host #17 Ursinus College on Wednesday, October 16 at 7:00 pm.
