Field Hockey Unable to Complete Comeback Against Ursinus

LANCASTER, Pa.- A third-period Caitlin Hoover goal got the Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (8-4, 4-0) back within a goal after falling behind 2-0, abut the Diplomats eventually fell 2-1 to No. 17 Ursinus College at Tylus Field on Wednesday evening.

Meghan Dole stopped 11 of the 13 shots on goal she faced, which marks a new season-high for the Diplomats goalkeeper who entered the week with the Centennial Conference's best save percentage.
Ursinus created seven chances in the first half, while the Diplomats were unable to get a shot off. Ursinus first broke through in the 24th minute, winning the ball back off a high press and errant pass, driving left across the face of goal and finding the back of the cage to the goalkeeper's right.

The second Bears goal came 90 seconds into the second quarter in the aftermath of an unsuccessful penalty corner, as Ursinus again worked the ball in front of close for a close-range finish.
Hoover's goal came four minutes later as the Diplomats won the ball back off a heavy press of their own. Hoover would beat a pair of defenders and fire a shot from the edge of the arc, beating the keeper at the near post. F&M followed with four penalty corners but was unable to convert on shots from Hoover and Lofgren before the end of the third quarter.

Scoring chances slowed down for both sides in the fourth quarter, with Ursinus outshooting F&M 3-1. Hannah Fitzgerald generated F&M's one chance off more high pressing, driving from midfield and getting a shot that forced a diving save with four minutes left.

The Diplomats move to 4-2 in the Centennial Conference, holding a tie with Ursinus for the third-best record in the conference.

The F&M field hockey team continues Centennial Conference play as they travel to Haverford this Saturday, October 19, at 1:00 pm.
