LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 11 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (5-0-5, 3-0-0 CC) cruised to a 2-0 win over Ursinus (6-3-1, 0-3-0 CC) in Wednesday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) game at Tylus Field. The shutout victory is the fourth of the season for the Diplomats as F&M stays unbeaten this year.
The Diplomats got the scoring started in the 37th minute as
Adam Green received a pass in the middle of the box and buried his shot in the back of the net for his second goal in as many games. On the play,
Wes Wise was credited with his first assist of the season and the fourth of his career.
Franklin & Marshall dominated the shot column in the first half as it outshot Ursinus, 15-4, through 45 minutes of play.
The Diplomats added to their lead in the 81st minute as
Nathan Schlessinger launched a shot that was saved by the Ursinus goalkeeper.
Sean Lipschutz charged the net, collected the rebound and sent two shots towards the cage with the second shot finding twine to put F&M ahead, 2-0. The goal was the junior's first score of the season and the second of his career.
Franklin & Marshall nearly added a third goal in the final minute, but
Ethan Lacher's blast hit the crossbar and bounced away from the Bears' net.
F&M fired 25 total shots with 14 on goal in the game. Meanwhile, the Diplomats allowed just eight total shot attempts from Ursinus in the contest.
Koa Kaliebe led the game with six total shot attempts, while Schlessinger fired five shots in the win.
Nolan Booth picked up his sixth shutout of the season in a game where he made just two saves, including a leaping save in the 89th minute to keep the Bears off the scoreboard.
Franklin & Marshall gears up to host McDaniel on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for True Blue Weekend.
