Field Hockey Falls in 2OT to Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (6-5, 3-1 CC) suffered its first Centennial Conference (CC) defeat of the season in a 3-2 double-overtime loss at Gettysburg (9-3, 2-2 CC) Wednesday afternoon. The Bullets got past the F&M defense just two minutes into the double-overtime period to bury the game-winning goal.

F&M broke into the scoring column first as Hannah Fitzgerald set up Caitlin Hoover to score her fourth goal of the season three minutes into the contest. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald was credited with her second assist of the year on the play.

Gettysburg responded with two goals in the second quarter to take a 2-1 advantage into the halftime break. The Bullets also had a shot advantage of 8-2 after 30 minutes of play.

Still trailing by a goal with 1:32 remaining in the game, Hoover found Annie Malatesta to tuck the game-tying shot inside the left post. Malatesta improves to three goals on the season, while Hoover earned her fourth assist of the year.

F&M was held to just one shot across both overtime periods, while Gettysburg recorded three shots in the overtime quarters.

Franklin & Marshall tallied seven shots on net in eight total attempts. Hoover led F&M with four shots, while Fitzgerald registered two in the contest. In net, Meghan Dole made nine saves on the day to keep F&M within striking distance.

Franklin & Marshall looks to bounce back when it travels to play Muhlenberg on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
