EVANSTON, Ill. – Bryce Kresho continued his winning ways on Monday at the 60th Annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships. Riding a three-match winning streak into Monday's action, the junior captain added two more wins to his tournament and finished in sixth place overall to become just the fifth all-time medalist at the prestigious tournament for the Diplomats. Three of those five medalists have come in the past two seasons, while All-American Rick Durso was the first to place for F&M during the 2013 and 2015 tournaments. The placement also continued another individual streak for Kresho in which he has placed at every tournament he has competed at this season.
Finding himself in the round of 12 entering Monday's third session, Kresho advanced to the medal matches via a medical forfeit and followed that up with a fall against SIU dwardsville's Ben Lunn right at the five-minute mark. That win marked his 21st victory and seventh pin of the season for the Diplomats' 141 lb. wrestler who entered the tournament tied for the Division I lead in wins and was among the top five wrestlers in falls. Two hard-fought decisions concluded his tournament with a sixth-place finish after his week in Illinois featured two Big 10 victories, along with two MAC wins, and an Ivy League triumph.
Wrestling will now break from competition until Friday, January 10 when the entire team is slated to compete at the David H. Lehman '68 F&M Open. That tournament, held inside the Alumni Fitness Center (ASFC), will once again feature teams from all over the country. Action in the ASFC will get underway at 9 a.m. that day.
