SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (10-13, 5-13 CC) was defeated on the road, 61-39, by Swarthmore (11-12, 9-9-CC) in Saturday afternoon's Centennial Conference (CC) matchup. The Diplomats had a tough time slowing Swarthmore's offensive attack as the Garnet shot 47.1 percent from the field in the game, while also scoring 13 or more points in every quarter of the contest.
Trailing 18-6 with nine minutes remaining in the second quarter,
Kayla McCrea drained a three-pointer in hopes of jump-starting the F&M offense.
Jaclyn Feit knocked down a pair of free throws to cut the deficit to seven, but Swarthmore responded with four points to push its lead to 22-11.
Lizzie Neville answered with a layup and a jumper on consecutive possessions to once again reduce the deficit to single-digits. A layup from McCrea made it a five-point game, but the Garnet scored six-straight points to regain the home team's momentum.
Ally Trebelev scored the final four points of the half for the Diplomats, but Swarthmore entered the break with a 30-21 lead.
Out of halftime, Neville got the Diplomats on the scoreboard immediately with a triple to get F&M within six. However, that would be as close as Franklin & Marshall would get to tying the contest as Swarthmore began a 12-2 run across the next five minutes to extend its lead to 42-26. From that point, both teams traded baskets as
Quinn Galligan and
Leila Walton added four points for the Diplomats, but the Garnet held a 48-30 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Swarthmore didn't stop attacking the basket in the final 10 minutes as the hosts held a lead of 20 points or more through the remainder of the game.
As a team, Franklin & Marshall shot 31 percent from the field in the game.
Trebelev finished the game with 10 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Feit ended the contest with eight points, five rebounds, and four assists. Neville tallied seven points, seven rebounds, and two steals in the game.
Franklin & Marshall returns to the Mayser Center on Wednesday when it hosts Dickinson at 6:00 p.m.
