Women's Basketball Falls Short in Comeback Against Dickinson

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (10-14, 5-14 CC) pieced together a ferocious comeback that saw the Diplomats diminish a 12-point deficit in the second half of Wednesday evening's Centennial Conference (CC) matchup against Dickinson (17-7, 14-5 CC). Despite tying the game early in the fourth quarter, the Red Devils used an 11-0 run in the frame to pull away from the Diplomats for the 59-50 victory.

Trailing 35-23 with three minutes left in the third quarter, F&M began a 10-2 run to close the quarter. After Jaclyn Feit and Gia Sioutis combined for three free throws, Lizzie Neville drained a three-pointer to cut the deficit to six with two minutes remaining in the quarter. Feit chipped in another free throw, followed by a triple from Ally Trebelev to get the home team within two. A jumper from Dickinson with seconds left on the clock allowed the Red Devils to escape the quarter with a 37-33 lead entering the final 10 minutes of play.

To start the final quarter, Quinn Galligan splashed a three-pointer to make it a one-point game. Dickinson converted a layup on the other end, but Feit worked her way to the charity stripe and knocked down both free throws to tie the game at 39-all. After the Red Devils' aforementioned 11-0 run, Feit and Neville combined for five-consecutive points to keep the Diplomats within six. From that point, the teams traded three-pointers to make it a 55-50 game with 30 seconds left. The Diplomats battled to the end, but Dickinson would ice the game by going 4-for-4 at the free throw line.

Earlier in the game, Dickinson jumped out to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter, but F&M responded down the stretch with buckets from Neville and Sioutis to reduce the Red Devils' lead to 13-9 after 10 minutes of play. The visitors once again came out firing at the start of the second quarter to extend their lead to 19-11 two minutes into the period. Galligan converted an and-one opportunity with 7:24 on the clock to get the Diplomats within five. After Dickinson made a layup, Sioutis responded with one of her own on the other end to keep F&M within range. The teams matched baskets for the rest of the way as the Red Devils took a 24-17 lead into halftime.

F&M shot 41.7 percent from the field in the second half, while shooting 5-for-10 from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes.

Feit led the Diplomats with 14 points and three blocks in the game. Galligan and Neville each tallied nine points, with Neville dishing out a team-high four assists. Sioutis ended the contest with eight points and a team-leading six rebounds. Neville, Sioutis, and Trebelev swiped two steals each in the loss.

Franklin & Marshall concludes the regular season on Saturday when it welcomes Washington College to the Mayser Center at 1:00 p.m. Before tip-off on Saturday, F&M women's basketball will honor Hope Schreiber and Jaclyn Feit during a pre-game Senior Day ceremony.
