Men's Swimming Through Day Three of CC Championships

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Following the end of the fifth session of the Centennial Conference Championships, the Franklin & Marshall Men's Swimming team accumulated 395 team points, good for third place in the standings.

The Diplomats got off to a strong start in the night cap, tallying a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Sam Kamdin, Matt Hurford, John Devaney and Ben Lockey recording a time of 1:21.10. F&M also earned first place in the '"B" final of the event, as Henry Tavens, Matt Hopkins, Brady Saunders and Thomas Smolinski finished with a time of 1:23.68. 

In the individual events, Matthew Tilghman registered the eighth best performance in program history in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:12.23. Similarly, Evan Willertz notched a time of 50.73 in the 100-yard butterfly which ranks fourth all-time in program history.

Both Hurford and Tavens entered the top-10 times of the 200-yard freestyle, as the former finished with a time of 1:39.68 while the latter finished with a time of 1:41.84, good for second and 10th in program history, respectively. Hurford's performance was also good for third place in the event.

Patrick Rooney's time of 57.75 in the 100-yard breaststroke landed him both third place of the "B" final and fourth all-time in program history. Competing in the "A" final of the event, Luke Circus posted a time of 58.07 which ranks sixth all-time. 

Closing out the night with the 100-yard backstroke, Kamdin set the program record with a time of 49.63, which also earned him first place in the race. The record was previously set by Alec Wahl in 2022. He was followed by Sean Conley, who topped the "B" final with a time of 51.11, good for seventh all-time. Hopkins finished in third of the "B" final with a time of 52.63, tying the 10th best time in program history. 

The Diplomats will now wrap up the championships tomorrow, with the day scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. The awards ceremony will occur after the conclusion of the night session.
