A tough start to the game for F&M put the Diplomats behind on the scoreboard early in the contest. The Blue Jays jumped out to a 9-0 lead when Franklin & Marshall notched its first bucket of the game on a three-pointer from
Lizzie Neville with 5:24 left in the first quarter. JHU responded with 13-straight points in the following four minutes to extend its lead to 22-3. A jumper from
Ally Trebelev and a layup from the Blue Jays in the final minute of the quarter gave the home team a 25-4 advantage after 10 minutes.
Hope Schreiber scored the first five points for the Diplomats in the second quarter to cut Johns Hopkins' lead to 16 with six minutes remaining until halftime. However, the Blue Jays ended the period on an 11-3 run to take a 37-13 lead into the break.
Franklin & Marshall pieced together its best quarter of the game in the third, shooting 35.7 percent from the field while firing 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Gia Sioutis chipped in six points to lead F&M in the frame, while Schreiber,
Lauren Rusas, and
Mackenzie Ward all drained three-pointers in the quarter. Despite F&M's effort to narrow the deficit, the Blue Jays matched the Diplomats' 17 points in the quarter to lead 54-30 entering the final 10 minutes of play.
Schreiber led the Diplomats with eight points, followed by Neville and Sioutis tallying six points each. Trebelev nabbed a team-leading three steals to help F&M force 18 turnovers in the contest.
