ORLANDO, Fla. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team battled undefeated NESCAC foe Trinity (Conn.) to a narrow 5-4 loss on Tuesday night. The Diplomats and Bantams evenly split the three singles matches, but Trinity (Conn.) held the upper hand in doubles to remain undefeated on the year.
Luke Brodsky and Campbell Gervais secured a win for the Diplomats at No. 2 doubles as that pairing claimed an 8-3 win. The tightest battle of the doubles matches came at the top of the lineup where Zac Ashtiani and Anthony Casale fell in a 8-6 final.
Singles was competitive up and down the lineup as two matches were decided by 10-point tiebreaks while two other matches had games go to extra games during one of the sets. Ashtiani won his 10-point tiebreak match at No. 2 in the lineup. His opponent forced the decisive set with an 11-9 tiebreak win during set two, but Ashtiani regrouped and took the tiebreak by a 10-6 final. Brodsky also played a 10-point tiebreak at the top of the lineup, but dropped a hard-fought 10-5 final set after he won a 7-4 tiebreak during his opening set.
Samuel Donnelly was a winner at No. 3 for the Diplomats with his 7-5 win in the second to secure the straight set victory. Pedro Norte also picked up a team point for Franklin & Marshall with his 6-2, 6-3 straight set win at No. 5.
Men's tennis wraps up its week of competition in Florida on Wednesday with another NESCAC opponent as the Diplomats play Connecticut College at 6 p.m.
