ORLANDO, Fla. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team continued to challenge itself with a nationally-competitive schedule as the Diplomats played No. 25 Denison on Tuesday night during the team's week in Florida. The Diplomats won the No. 1 doubles match, but the Big Red proved worthy of their national ranking in the 8-1 final team score.
Mackenzie Sherman and Sophia Rhazali earned the Diplomats' win at No. 1 doubles as that pairing registered its first win together with an 8-6 victory at the top of the lineup. The Big Red held the lead after doubles with respective 8-2 and 8-3 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Sherman nearly made it a 2-0 day for her individually as she forced a decisive 10-point tiebreak at No. 1 singles following her 7-5 second set victory. The tiebreak was an equally tight battle before her opponent came away with the 10-8 victory. Lorena Saavedra also forced a decisive third set following a 7-5 win of her own during the second of her match at No. 5 singles. Saavedra's third set was a 10-6 final in favor of the Big Red.
Women's tennis wraps up its competition in Florida with two more matches on Wednesday. F&M's day starts with a 12 p.m. first serve against Sweet Briar before wrapping up the trip with a 6 p.m. start against Connecticut College.
