LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team (9-9, 5-3 CC) surged past Gettysburg (10-9, 4-4 CC), 5-1, in the opening round of the Centennial Conference (CC) Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Brooks Tennis Center. The victory marks the first F&M win in the first round of the CC playoffs since the 2018-19 season.
The Diplomats jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage as they swept through the doubles matches. Gettysburg earned a win in the No. 2 singles match, but F&M took two matches from the Bullets to complete the first-round victory.
Gonzalo Gentou and
Pedro Norte picked up an 8-4 win in the third doubles match to earn their second win this season.
Luke Brodsky and
Campbell Gervais followed with an 8-6 win in the middle match to claim their 10th victory together this year. The duo of
Zac Ashtiani and
Soren Rudin-Aulenbach earned their second win of the season as they downed their opponent, 8-6, in the No. 1 doubles match.
Samuel Donnelly earned a win in the No. 3 slot during his CC Tournament debut. The first year defeated his opponent, 6-4, 6-1, to claim his 12th win of the year. Gentou defeated his opponent in the No. 4 position to complete the victory over the Bullets. Gentou held off his opponent, 6-4, 7(7)-6(1) to pick up his eighth win of the spring.
Franklin & Marshall advances to the semifinals of the CC Tournament where it will travel to face No. 1 seed and No. 11 nationally-ranked Swarthmore Friday at 4:00 p.m.
